How to Make the Best Banana Nutella Pie

Making the crust
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).
  2. Start by making crumbs out of the butter crackers using a blender.
  3. Melt the butter in the microwave (careful not to overcook it, just enough to melt) and mix the cracker crumbs and the butter in a bowl with a spoon. The mixture will still be very sandy. It will not form a though that you can “work”. It will be very crumbly.
  4. Get the baking tray and spread the mixture. Use the back of a spoon to make it a compact crust. Make it even across the entire baking tray.
  5. Once the oven is preheated, add the baking tray into the oven and let it bake for about 12-15 minutes.
  6. While the crust is baking, prepare the fillings. Cut bananas in halves. Reserve.
  7. Remove from the oven and let it cool for at least 45 minutes to 1h before assembling the pie.
How to Make the Nutella easier to spread
  1. Add boiling water to a pot or a large bowl. Add a smaller bowl with Nutella inside and mix it. Careful to not add too much water into the pot/bowl, otherwise the water will ended up entering the Nutella bowl on top. Remove when you notice the Nutella is already softer.
  2. Do NOT use microwave, or butter, milk, whipped cream to make Nutella easier to spread.
Making the Whipped Cream
  1. In a bowl, add the heavy whipped cream, sugar and vanilla extract. Mix it with a hand mixer (or stand mixer) in medium speed for about 5 minutes.
Assembling the Pie
  1. Once the crust is cooled, we can assemble the pie. Start by spreading the Nutella evenly on top of the crust. Use a spoon or spatula and be gentle, to not break the crust.
  2. Now add the bananas. Distribute them evenly.
  3. Finally, add the whipped cream and sprinkle cacao powder on top.
  4. Place the tray into the fridge and let it rest for at least 3 hours before serving. I usually recommend making this pie the day before.

Recipe Tips

  1. The main tip here is how to make Nutella softer to spread. Like mentioned before, do not add the Nutella into the microwave, or add cream to it. Simply do a warm water bath.
