Hot Dogs in Tomato Sauce Ingredients

  • 6 hot dogs, chopped
  • 1 Tomato can
  • ⅓ Water
  • 1 Small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 Garlic clove, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Oregano
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • ¼ teaspoon Black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon Baking Soda

How to Make the Best Hot Dogs in Tomato Sauce

  1. Chop the hot dogs, onions and garlic.
  2. In a medium-high pot, add the olive oil and sauté onions for 3 minutes. Add the garlic and stir fry for another minute.
  3. Add the tomato sauce and the water to the pot. Mix it well.
  4. Add all seasonings at once. Add the baking soda and mix it well. Some bubbles will be formed, but don’t worry, in a few minutes it will go away.
  5. Bring the sauce to a boil, then add a lid to the pot, but don’t close it completely. Reduce the heat to low. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  6. Add the chopped hot dogs and cook for another 3 minutes.
  7. Serve with a side of mashed potatoes, rice, pasta or with bread. Enjoy!

Recipe Tips

  1. If you like spicy food, add one dried chili (chopped) when you sauté the onion. This will bring up the flavor and add a bit of heat.
  2. If you like the hot dogs a bit more “crunchy”, you can opt to sauté the hot dogs before adding the tomato sauce. Do it for about 3-5 minutes.
