Crispy Tofu stir fry Ingredients

  • 2 Tablespoon Oil
  • 200 g Firm tofu, cubed
  • 1 Onion, cubed
  • 1 Dried chili, chopped (optional)
  • 3 cups Vegetables of choice (carrots, bell pepper, zucchini, green beans, broccoli, eggplant, pak choy, cabbage are all great options
  • ¼ cup Green onions, chopped
  • Sesame seed to taste (garnish)

For the Sauce

  • 2 Tablespoons Soy sauce
  • ½ Tablespoon Chinese Cooking Wine
  • ¼ cup Water
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame oil
  • 1 Tablespoon Brown Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Cornstarch
  • 2 Garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger, minced

How to Make Crispy Tofu stir fry

  1. Start by mixing all sauce ingredients well in a bowl. Reserve
  2. In a medium-high heat pan, add one tablespoon of oil. Start by frying the tofu. Once all sides are brown, remove it from the pan. Be gentle when mixing, so the tofu doesn’t break. It will take around 5minutes.
  3. Remove from the pan and reserve.
  4. Add the other tablespoon of oil and stir fry the onions for 1 minute. Add the chopped dried chile and stir fry for another minute (optional).
  5. Add the vegetables and stir fry it for another 3 minutes.
  6. Put the tofu back into the pan.
  7. Add the sauce and mix it well, but gently, so the tofu doesn’t break. Cook until the sauce boils and thickens. It will only be about 2 minutes.
  8. Add the green onions and cook for another 30 seconds.
  9. Serve it on top of white rice.

Recipe Tips

  1. Choose firm or extra-firm tofu for the best texture in stir-fries. Silken tofu can be too delicate and may break apart.
  2. Use High Heat Cooking: Use a hot wok or skillet to stir-fry the ingredients quickly. This helps to sear the tofu and vegetables, retaining their crunch and nutrients.
